All you would like to know about the Wave, Arizona

The Wave, Arizona got famous since Windows7 screen saver launched this place on, then everyone wants to see it their own eyes. Permit to hike here is difficult to get, so it is called Lottery. Two ways getting these permits are online which is allowed four months before hiking date, or walk in for a next day hike. I have tried online lotto for so many times but have never won. This time, me and another friends of mind did walked in and we was lucky to win our first tried.

Walked in permitted run early of the day, 8.30am the ranger would give a paper to fill out. Group could not be bigger than 6 people and only one application per group. After filled application, the ranger would call your name and sign a number for your application to put in a slot. Ten people got permitted each day and all processes would be done in 30 minutes. We won permitted and paid $8 per person, dog is welcome which you have to pay for a dog passed too. You would get paper to put visible while you hike, to put on your car dashboard and a map. Map to the wave is likes a picture puzzle. When you hike to the wave, GPS could not work as good because there are many iron in the ground. The signal of GPS would be off. A picture map would guide you pretty good. Pictures are cleared and directed to visible spot to notice.

The wave sand stone formation is well-known with a colorful and many curves. The eroded was since Jurassic age as a large sand dunes migrated across a sandy desert. Some claimed to see a fossil.

The trail is a 5.9 mile out and back. This trail exhibits many rock formations as you could image. The soft sandstone is fragile, visitors must walk carefully to avoid breaking the small ridges. At this point, I agreed with rule to have small amount of visitors a day to protect the area. Me and my friend did not take much time on the trial, but the wave area was beautiful and great to share with other visitors.
